ScienceLogic in Action: The Business Outcomes of Investing in IT Operations Optimization

Many of the benefits from ScienceLogic’s SL1 platform for IT operations monitoring and management are readily apparent. Our clients routinely cite dramatic improvements achieved by leveraging SL1 in their hybrid cloud environments, including stronger visibility, more comprehensive monitoring, intelligent automation, and more proactive analytics for decision support. Beyond what our clients are telling us, we also received third-party verification through Forrester’s rigorous Total Economic Impact (TEI) study as we sought to identify just how fully the SL1 platform can transform operations and drive enterprise value.

The Investment Value of Focusing on the Most Pressing Business Challenges

Core to ScienceLogic’s business is the principle that maximizing the impact of an enterprise IT initiative begins with identifying the most important business challenges the technology should aim to solve. The results of the TEI study showed that ScienceLogic succeeds in enabling companies to do just that. Through a process of due diligence, stakeholder interviews, financial analysis and case study modeling, Forrester constructed a framework to identify the cost, benefit, flexibility and risk factors that drive organizations’ decisions to invest in SL1.

According to the study, when it comes to configuring and managing a modern hybrid cloud environment in an enterprise, key challenges have to do with complexity and scale. Organizations typically struggle with siloed monitoring tools that leave visibility gaps and limit IT estate coverage, obscuring the ability to track where and how incidents are impacting it. Many of these organizations also struggle with disparate toolsets, heavy reliance on human engineers and escalating levels of manual work and costs as customer portfolios increase.

The collective impact of these challenges is a perpetual reactive mode and inability to move toward a more proactive posture of business enablement. Against the backdrop, the Forrester study validated that ScienceLogic’s SL1 platform for AIOps is well-suited to meet such challenges by stabilizing network operations, reducing operational costs, improving the UX and providing a more predictive operations model.

Itemizing SL1’s Benefits and Quantifying the Value

In all, the study found that a typical enterprise investing in ScienceLogic’s SL1 AIOps platform will experience benefits of up to $5.84 million in savings over three years versus costs of $2.27 million, adding up to a net present value (NPV) of $3.57 million, a payback period of less than six months and an overall ROI of 157%.

These gains stem from SL1’s significant elimination of incident noise, together with the platform’s ability to increase productivity by optimizing ticket creation, routing, enrichment and remediation on an ongoing basis. For instance, leveraging SL1’s extensive deduplication and event correlation capabilities within a service context, a composite organization in one of Forrester’s use case models managed to reduce its number of tickets by 21,000 in Year 1; by 26,500 in Year 2; and by 33,000 in Year 3. The organization also saved 20,125 hours of support analyst time during those three years.

Results like these are driven largely by increased productivity throughout the entire incident management lifecycle. This same model also achieved three-year savings of $473,700 in avoided effort on ticket routing and productivity savings of $461,200 in creating and assigning tickets. Better still, with SL1’s auto-remediation and auto-troubleshooting capabilities, a typical organization over that same time period can reap $2.4 million and $1 million in productivity savings, respectively.

In addition to cost savings, the study found that a typical organization using the SL1 platform can reduce its monitoring and management tools and platform portfolio by 69% and reduce the number of required tool administrative staff from five to two. And, since SL1 reduces the number of major incidents, organizations can realize additional savings by cutting down the effort and time employees spend in war room scenarios that would otherwise require 20 or more staff to spend endless hours on troubleshooting calls over multiple days.
