Use Case

Leidos faced the need to replace legacy tools and implement a platform for a defense customer’s network that could provide real-time visibility, improve mission responsiveness, and meet stringent security and compliance requirements.

Their answer: ScienceLogic Skylar One.

Challenge

As Leidos took on a large-scale network and infrastructure modernization effort for a defense customer’s network, they faced a complex, multi-tenant IT environment with thousands of devices across classified and unclassified domains. Their existing monitoring tool lacked the correlation and visibility needed to support this scale. Adding to the challenge, federal security compliance and deployment constraints limited the use of many commercial SaaS-based solutions. The platform needed to support agent and agentless methods, offer insight across cloud and physical infrastructure, operate in reduced-connectivity (OCONUS) conditions, and meet the Department of Defense’s (DoD – restoring to the Department of War (DoW) requirements.

“We needed enterprise support, hybrid deployment, and offline operability in OCONUS environments. ScienceLogic was the only platform that could check all the boxes.”

Johnathon Brett, CTO, Leidos

Solution

After a thorough evaluation, Leidos selected ScienceLogic Skylar One for its ability to deliver out-of-the-box observability, deployment flexibility, and a highly adaptable service-oriented model. Skylar One’s automated dependency mapping and real-time correlation supported operational teams in quickly visualizing, detecting, and diagnosing mission-critical issues.

ScienceLogic Skylar One was deployed within the customer’s secure, DoW-accredited environment, ensuring full compliance with all relevant security and authorization standards. This deployment model provided the flexibility to meet stringent IL5 requirements while maintaining the speed needed to deliver mission-critical capabilities. Skylar One’s ability to monitor both traditional infrastructure and cloud-native services in a single, unified platform gave Leidos comprehensive oversight across its technology stack—supporting secure, efficient, and compliant operations.

Benefits

Accelerated issue detection and response, enabling teams to identify and resolve outages hours faster than legacy tools.
Improved operational efficiency, reducing manual work through intelligent correlation and service-level monitoring.
Helped reduce operations and maintenance costs, enabling the customer to streamline resources.
Achieved increased visibility across hybrid environments, supporting secure, real-time situational awareness at scale.
Enabled compliance-ready deployment, meeting IL5 security requirements while supporting disconnected (OCONUS) operations.

Results

The results have been transformative:

  • Improved Visibility: Skylar One now monitors a wide range of physical and cloud assets across the customer’s environment, providing comprehensive insight down to service-level health and application responsiveness.
  • Operational Efficiency: Skylar One detected issues significantly faster than legacy tools, significantly reducing mean time to resolution (MTTR) and enabling proactive operations and response.
  • Cost Reduction: By modernizing and consolidating tools, Leidos helped the customer achieve operations and maintenance costs avoidance of up to 30% in this deployment.
  • Enhanced User Experience: Improved service availability, faster issue resolution, and proactive remediation contributed to an improved customer satisfaction score during the period measured.
  • Compliance-Driven Deployment: Skylar One supported full deployment across the IL5 environment, enabling secure operations at the edge, even without persistent connectivity.

“ScienceLogic gave us a significantly better operational view that has advanced our customers’ ability to understand, react to, and grow their environment.”

Johnathon Brett, CTO, Leidos

Impact

Leidos credits the success of the deployment not only to the platform, but to the strong partnership with ScienceLogic. “It’s been a journey together,” says Chad Buechel, VP and Division Manager for the Defense Enterprise IT Modernization Division at Leidos. “ScienceLogic stayed engaged beyond the sale—through implementation, training, and optimization—helping us deliver real value to our customers.”

Johnathon Brett, Chief Technology Officer for the Defense Enterprise IT Modernization Division at Leidos adds, “ScienceLogic has given us a significantly better operational view, which enhances our ability to react to changes and grow the environment securely and efficiently.”

ScienceLogic is not just a tool—it’s a mission enabler.
